About this story: David and Goliath (1 Samuel 16–17)
God sends Samuel to choose a king, and he picks the youngest son, a shepherd nobody invited. Later a giant named Goliath dares Israel’s army to fight, and for forty days no one will. David, armed with a sling and five stones, steps up.
Kids play Samuel and one of the scared soldiers, make 5 choices, and stop 3 times to look through different ways of knowing, starting with “people look at the outside, but God looks at the heart.” The ending stops when Goliath falls.

If your child asks: “Is it okay that David killed him?”
It’s an honest question. The story is set in a war, and David is defending his people. What the Bible praises isn’t the fight but David’s trust: he went because he believed God was with him.
What the Bible says
1 Samuel 16–17. Samuel anoints David, the youngest of eight brothers and a shepherd, as the future king. Soon after, the Philistine champion Goliath taunts Israel’s army for forty days. David, too small for armor, brings him down with a sling and one stone, saying the battle belongs to the Lord. He becomes Israel’s greatest king, and Jesus is born into his family line.
